PREVENTION
First Step Cambodia's prevention program empowers communities to protect children from sexual abuse. Through educational resources and workshops, FSC raises awareness among children, adults, and professionals. FSC works to create safer environments for all children.
Children and Youth Empowerment

First Step Cambodia empowers children and youth through its child and youth clubs, which serve as vibrant platforms for awareness-raising and community engagement. These clubs foster a sense of responsibility and agency among young people, equipping them with knowledge and skills to become active child protection agents.
Through interactive workshops, FSC encourages children and youth to promote safety and well-being, addressing harmful social norms against boys, online exploitation risks, and the needs of the LGBTIQ+ community and children with disabilities. By engaging with these clubs, young people develop leadership skills and a deeper understanding of supporting vulnerable peers.
The program has reached 15,073 children and youth, with 62% being female, reflecting FSC's commitment to inclusive and equitable support.

Core Parents Groups
First Step Cambodia's parent groups play a vital role in preventing violence against children by fostering positive family dynamics and challenging harmful social norms. These groups empower parents to adopt non-violent discipline methods and address issues such as the taboo surrounding male victims of sexual abuse, online exploitation risks, and the unique challenges faced by the LGBTIQ+ community and children with disabilities. By engaging with these programs, parents can better support their children and create safer environments within their communities.

Our program has reached 10,038 parents, with 84% being females, demonstrating a strong commitment to inclusive support. By equipping parents with the skills to promote safety and respect within their families, we aim to create environments where all children can thrive without fear of violence or discrimination.

Community Engagement

First Step Cambodia fosters community engagement by empowering representatives from its child and youth clubs and core parent groups to become official members of the Commune Committee for Women and Children (CCWC) and the Women and Children Consultative Committee (WCCC). Notably, 23 representatives from child and youth clubs and 23 representatives from core parent groups have taken on these roles, ensuring that the voices of children, youth, and parents are represented at the local governance level.
This strategic approach allows them to influence policies and decisions that impact their communities, addressing harmful social norms against boys, online exploitation, and the needs of the LGBTIQ+ community and children with disabilities. By supporting these representatives, FSC promotes a culture of inclusivity and participation, strengthening child protection mechanisms and building a more responsive and equitable community structure.
